This morning we’re anchored in another beautiful little cove near Whangaroa with lush cliffsides all around, calm water, blue skies, fish splashing, and seagulls hovering over them hoping for a meal. The forest is loud with the sound of cicadas. Little blue penguins abound in this area. They swim very low and submerged in the water and duck under if we even look cross-eyed at them. We’ve been here for three days and have done some hiking, wind-surfing and kayaking for entertainment. We’re getting ready to head back to Opua while the weather is good, and then maybe take an overnight driving trip to see a few sights by land.
Yesterday was grey, drizzly and blustery, so we holed up with our computers and projects. I’m organizing shopping lists and menus and honing up on my cooking skills. I have a system now and it’s been fun. My bible is the South Beach Diet Quick & Easy Cookbook – the recipes really are quick and easy, but taste good. Chicken couscous last night for dinner.
Mike got MaxSea (the navigation program) running on the big screen TV, so now the guys can just peer down the hatch opening for a view of the charts and boat position.
