The tall ship R. Tucker Thompson is a daily sight in the Opua/Russell area as she takes boatloads of toursts on an exciting daysail with time out for swimming, snorkeling, dolphin-watching, and lunch. She also offers yachties free transport from Opua to Russell on her morning and evening commute from/to her berth.
The day we sailed in from Whangaroa the wind was blowing 25 knots and “Tucker” looked too beautiful not to take a raft of photos of the ship racing along with all her canvas up. We emailed the photos to the company and they seemed pleased…emailed us right back and said it was rare to receive photos of the entire ship. Most photos in their scrapbook were taken by their passengers and therefore are onboard shots of the mast, sails, etc.
In the off season “Tucker” sails away from New Zealand to participate in tall ship festivals around the world, including our own west coast.
