Scratch that last entry! We are back in Waikiki rather than cruising to Molokai at the moment. We traversed about 1/3 the distance across the channel, hard on the wind, 30 knots and rough seas – and then decided the better part of valor (rather than breaking something) was to give up for the day and batten Raven down for an ocean crossing before attempting the Molokai Channel the next time. We’re thinking Tuesday at the moment.
So yesterday we puttered around. I took photos in the morning at Ala Moana Park right next door, and then wandered around the huge Ala Moana mall across the street. Mike and I took the dinghy out of the harbor to try some snorkeling, but the underwater scenery this close to Waikiki was pretty uninspiring. We have seen a lot of sea turtles however, just floating at the surface and lifting their heads out of the water to check out the boats.
The America’s Cup yacht races are being televised (2:30 in the morning Hawaii time), so Mike and Rod take time out mid-day to watch the replay of the races. So far it is a tie between the Swiss boat “Alinghi” and the Emirates Team New Zealand boat. Guess which one we’re rooting for…
