Easter Sunday in Chamela

Slideshow Mexico 2008

By early afternoon we arrived at a beach town called Chamela – it was very festive and packed with vacationing Mexicans enjoying Easter Sunday at the beach. The surf was pretty rough to attempt a beach landing, so we took the dinghy to a rocky side shore and Mike and I clambered over the boulder field until we got to the sand beach with all its outdoor restaurants, beach vendors, ice cream carts, meandering mariachis, ATVs, horses for hire, pangas, banana boats, even a giant kite shaped like a killer whale, and lots of people hanging out in and by the water. We walked several miles along the sand, enjoyed a tropical drink (Mike a pina colada and me a coconut with a straw), then back to Raven for dinner aboard.
